Biography
Dr. Erfan Hoque is an Assistant Professor of Biostatistics and Data Science in the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology at The University of Saskatchewan. He obtained his PhD in Statistics from The University of Manitoba, where he received the Outstanding Academic Performance by a Ph.D. Student award for his research work. He specializes in biostatistics, with expertise in longitudinal data analysis, time series modeling, statistical machine learning, dynamic data science, survival analysis, copulas and missing data analysis.
Dr. Erfan’s research interest focuses on the methodological developments in heterogeneous dependence modeling in multivariate data, primarily focusing on developing innovative statistical/biostatistical models and methods for complex and correlated data to address health issues related to communicable and non-communicable diseases. He is also working on interdisciplinary areas such as public health and medicine, genomics, biology, computational finance, transportation, electricity demand, supply chain management etc. His research is supported by grants from NSERC, USask College of Medicine Start-up Grant, SHRF, etc.
Dr. Erfan has published in prestigious journals such as Biometrics, Statistics in Medicine and Canadian Journal of Statistics and presented his work at numerous national and international conferences. He is also a dedicated educator and mentor, supervising graduate students (in both CHEP and Biostatistics) and fostering interdisciplinary collaborations to advance statistical/biostatistical methods for real-world applications. He has also been actively involved in organizing conferences (SSC, DDS-BDAF COMPSAC, TRU Conference), reviewing for journals, and participating in professional associations. He enjoys his free time playing cricket and football and spending time with his family.
